Dry Needling

Dry needling can be used as an alternative or alongside sports massage. As with massage, the aims of dry needling are to reduce muscle tension, improve movement and promote tissue recovery.

Dry needling or ‘medical acupuncture’ is a new service offered at APC by our Physiotherapist/Soft tissue therapists. It can be used to relive pain – this works by the needle causing an analgesic effect when inserted into the tissues and reducing pain.

It can also be effective in reducing tension in overactive muscles, when the needles are inserted into the muscle this causes a localised response in the tissues. This response in turn releases myofascial trigger points in the muscle which can increase the flexibility and reduce tension in the muscles.

Dry needling can be used as a treatment for conditions such as;

  • Joint Pain e.g Tennis/Golfers elbow
  • Sciatica
  • Headaches
  • Muscular tightness
  • Back Pain
