Sports Massage

At the Accelerate Performance Centre, sports massage is an integral component of our performance and recovery services. It is a targeted form of soft tissue therapy designed to optimise muscle function, reduce tension, and support the body’s natural recovery processes. It focuses on the assessment and treatment of soft tissue dysfunction related to training load, overuse, and biomechanical imbalances.

Our team of therapists will analyse and treat areas of the body that cause pain and/or tightness and identify any muscular imbalances or weaknesses that could be putting added stress onto your body. With this knowledge, they will outline and create a plan that is tailored to you, and sport if necessary, to ensure that injury is avoided and overall performance and health is enhanced. This may include incorporating some strengthening and stability exercises to your routine, or give advice on how to approach training differently.

The primary objectives of Sports therapy are:

  • Improving athletic performance and overall mobility
  • Speed up recovery
  • Improving blood flow and removal of metabolic waste
  • Reducing the risk of injury
  • Correction of muscular imbalances

Sports massage therapy can be applied at various stages of the training and competition cycle to aid performance and recovery:

Pre-Event: To prepare muscles for activity, enhance readiness, and reduce risk of injury.
Post-Event: To assist recovery, reduce muscle fatigue, and minimise soreness.
Maintenance: Regular sessions to keep tissues healthy, flexible, and responsive to training demands.
Rehabilitation: As part of recovery from injuries or muscular imbalances under guidance from your therapist.

Techniques such as deep tissue manipulation, myofascial release, and stretching are some of the techniques used to address muscular imbalances, areas of tightness, and restrictions in range of motion that can develop through training or repetitive activity. Our ultimate goal is to enhance your enjoyment of sport or fitness keeping you active; improve and accelerate your performance.
